Researchers from the University of Adelaide are trying their best to find out the ways to exploit nanoparticles and their interactions with light. A 1,700-year-old Roman glass cup has opened a gate for researchers, which they believe would help them in fulfilling their research.

Researchers from the University's Institute for Photonics and Advanced Sensing (IPAS) are doing their best to understand the properties of nanoparticles present in glass. Heike Ebendorff-Heidepriem is an Associate Professor and Senior Research Fellow in the University's School of Chemistry and Physics.

"Nanoparticles and nanocrystals are focus of research around world because of their unique properties that have potential to bring great advances in wide range of medical, optical and electronic fields", said Heike.

Researchers said that the process of inducing nanoparticles into glass will open the way for various other applications. More efficient solar cells and advanced sensors can be produced with the help of this theory.

Scientists said that this new research can also be used in medical science, as the formation of sensors can be used to scan the human brain. Scientists claimed that they are trying their level best to harness these nanoscale properties in various applications.

This new research will also help in production of new tangible material, having properties of nanoparticles and can be reformed in real world applications.
